Dandie Fashions (later called Dandy Fashions) was a London boutique, started in 1966. Originally established in South Kensington, the store was moved to Kings Road, Chelsea, by October of that year and proceeded to outfit the hippest and grooviest artists of the ’60s. Dandy Fashions was at the very forefront of the Swinging Sixties movement. Psychedelic and luxurious, items from the boutique were worn by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Princess Margaret, etc.
The Beatles liked the store so much that they bought it out in early 1968, renamed the enterprise to Apple Tailoring, and began their own clothing business. The store stocked toned-down versions of the wilder clothing of the era, with a focus on quality and custom tailoring, founded on the reputation of Dandy Fashions quality. When that business closed in July 1968 due to poor management, Dandy Fashions was no more. This allows us the relatively rare experience of being able to date every single item from this one famous brand to precisely the same year/year-and-a-half in the 1960s (late 66-early 68).
